Artist Clare Avery at the Hotel Tilsitt Near the Champs Elysées

Paris is well known as a major hotspot for art in Europe. With some of the biggest, most impressive museums in the world — along with numerous small art galleries — art lovers in this city have a myriad of choices. Originally from the town of Buckinghamshire, England, Clare Avery is a talented contemporary artist working out of southwest France. With degrees in art and design from Brighton Polytechnic and the Royal College of Art, Avery's international career has included lecturing, touring and exhibiting in both public and private collections.

One of her most notable exhibitions to date took place in the historic district of the town of Cognac. This exhibition revolved around works created using a technique called 'Milifiori,' which involves placing paper on wood to create a collage. This exhibit was organized in a restaurant called the Crêperie L'Olympia, located inside of a building believed to be built in the 1400s.

Drawing inspiration from many sources — including research in art and drawing, as well as her own observations — Avery creates paintings and collages that harness the force of various color palettes and tactile surfaces. Avery's work can currently be seen in the Hotel Tilsitt, a member of the Sister Hotels family that is located just steps away from the famous Avenue des Champs-Elysées.
