According to the legend, the monument of the Samothrace Victory, consisting of a winged goddess statue - the messenger of Victory - and a prow-shaped base resting on a low pedestal, was offered to the Winged Gods following a naval victory. It was discovered in 1863 by Charles Champoiseau in the sanctuary of the island of Samothrace north of the Aegean Sea.

From 1863 to today, the succession of different excavation campaigns, French, Austrian and US, including some of the findings are presented in the exhibition, shows the slow road specialists to come to understand the complexity of the process of creating the monument. Old photographs and casts it possible to follow the main stages of its restoration and its presentation at the Louvre in 1866, 1883 and 1934.
