    Matahoata, Arts and Society in the Marquesas Islands: Exhibition at Musée du quai Branly, Paris

    Until July 24th, 2016, the Musée du quai Branly puts on display the exhibition Matahoata, Arts and Society in the Marquesas Islands.

    Held at the Galerie Jardin of the museum, this exhibition throws light on the Marquesas Islands, a small group of astonishing volcanic islands located in French Polynesia, in the southern Pacific Ocean.

    It particularly highlights the cultural diversity and variety that exists in the Marquesan society as well as the dynamism and vitality of art in this remote region.

    Matahoata, Arts and Society in the Marquesas Islands features a unique collection of more than 300 art pieces, from stunning paintings and impressive wood sculptures to amazing music instruments.

    Matahoata, Arts and Society in the Marquesas Islands is curated by:

    Carol Ivory, a professor at the public research university Washington State University (WSU) and a specialist in the Marquesas Islands.
