One Billion Ants, a Scientific Journey in the Center of Paris

With one billion ants, the Palais de la Découverte is hoping to catch the attention of curious Parisians. 'One Billion Ants' (or 'Mille Milliards de Fourmis' as it is called in French) is an exhibition that begun in October and will run until August 31, 2014. It allows visitors to learn about these interesting creatures that inhabit our gardens. With giant model ants, photographs, videos, small workshops and other interactive experiences, 'Mille Milliards de Fourmis' provides an unforgettable experience for both adults and children.

The Palais de la Découverte is a space for scientific discovery and exploration. Housed inside of the Grand Palais, one of the most prominent monuments in the city of Paris, the Palais de la Découverte has been disseminating knowledge from various branches of science since 1937. Now, guests staying at one of the Sister Hotels Champs-Elysées can take a scientific journey during their trip to Paris.

Visitors to the exhibition can discover real live colonies of ants scrambling before their very eyes. What's more, the exhibition has been conceived with playful intentions, and visitors are therefore confronted by an oversized atmosphere as they progress through the exhibit, allowing them to feel what it is like to be as small as an ant. They can also witness the social interactions that happen between ants by watching them through cameras that capture the action of the colonies.

From worker ants to queens, those who see this exhibition will learn all about this tiny society and how it functions. How is a new colony created? How long have ants existed? What is the physical difference between different types of ants? All of these questions and more are answered at the Palais de la Découverte.
