Parisians Flock to the Movies During the Fête du Cinéma

Along with being known for its beauty and sophistication, the city of Paris also has a reputation for its film culture. The number of cinemas in Paris is impressive, and visitors may notice the abundance of small, independently owned theaters that usually show more artistic films. As a result, visitors to the city should take advantage of their stay by checking out one of the favorite pastimes of Parisians: going to the movies.

From June 30 until July 3, 2013, the 'Fête du Cinéma,' or Cinema Festival will take place in Paris, making it even easier to check out a few films in the City of Light. Events like the Fête du Cinéma happen several times a year, with the most recent event, the 'Spring of Cinema,' having taken place this past March.

What these events have in common is that they give moviegoers access to discount film tickets — costing €3.50 for this edition of the festival. During the period of the festival movie, tickets at all participating cinemas will be offered at that price. The only exception is tickets for 3D films, which require an additional fee for the 3D glasses.

All of the major cinemas in Paris participate in the Fête du Cinéma, so guests staying at one of the Sister Hotels Champs-Elysées can relax in front of one of the silver screens located just a few steps from their hotel. There are several movie theaters on the Champs-Elysées itself, including the Cinéma Gaumont Champs-Elysées Marignan and the UGC Normandie.

With tickets being so inexpensive, the Fête du Cinéma provides moviegoers with the chance to experiment by seeing the summer blockbusters, thoughtful dramas and hilarious comedies that they may not have tried at ordinary prices. When going to see a movie in France, visitors should make sure the film is being shown in 'VO,' which means the original version with French subtitles, instead of 'VF' which is a movie dubbed in French.
