Raw Emotion Is Showcased in This Broadway-Style Show in Paris
For two dazzling shows, the Théâtre Michel will bring the music of Barbra Streisand to the stage as a show called 'Sleepin' Bee' dances its way into Paris. Unforgettable Broadway rhythms will be brought to life as the songs of Streisand are showcased during the spectacle. The name 'Sleepin' Bee' comes from a song in the 1954 musical 'House of Flowers,' which was the result of a collaboration between composer Harold Arlen and writer Truman Capote.
With a cinematographic ambiance, 'Sleepin' Bee' revisits an era filled with American jazz and swing standards that found their way into Broadway musicals. With their folk poetry and catchy tunes, these songs brought to Broadway a sense of hope and reverie along with an underbelly of fear and internal turmoil.
Guests staying at one of the Sister Hotels Champs Elysées can enjoy this wholly unique show during their March stay in Paris. With performances on March 17 and March 31, 2014 — both at 8:30 p.m. — visitors have two chances to catch the sights and sounds of 'Sleepin' Bee.'
The show lasts for 80 minutes, and its small group of performers ensures a relatively intimate environment. With four performers and three musicians, director Franck Harscouët spins a tale of love, rebellion, visceral desire, fear and melancholy. So many human emotions take center stage in front of the backdrop of an old circus from the 1930s.
The show's action begins just as the circus tour has ended, as the various performers and employees of the circus spend their last moments together before embarking on separate paths. Between dreams and disappointment, these individuals find a means of expression through music — and audience members can experience these raw sentiments for two shows only at the Théâtre Michel.
