    Vermeer and the Masters of Genre Painting

    Being popular for holding the world’s probably most valuable pieces and works of art, until May 22, 2017, the Louvre museum is home to an exhibition that gives prominence to the Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer by presenting some of his most celebrated works.

    “Vermeer and the Masters of Genre Painting” is a perfect opportunity for visitors to contemplate 12 of this great artist’s finest masterpieces as well as more than 70 works of some of his Dutch contemporaries including Gerard ter Borch, Gerrit Dou, Jan Steen, Samuel van Hoogstraten, Nicolaes Maes, Gabriel Metsu, Caspar Netscher, Hendrick Martensz Sorgh, Pieter de Hooch, and Frans van Mieris.

    The Milkmaid (c. 1657–58), the Woman Holding a Balance (c. 1662–63), and the magnificent Woman with a Lute (c.1662-63) are on view, on this extraordinary occasion.
